Cabela's to get red-carpet welcome to Denver area
Wildlife Experience invites 450 for evening
Cabela’s will get a warm introduction to the Denver metro area later this month when the Wildlife Experience hosts a “Welcome to Denver” cocktail hour and dinner for the company’s top executives.
The sold-out Feb. 21 event gathers 450 business leaders, state and local officials and community members from the metro area’s north and south sides. Cabela’s is building stores in both Lone Tree and Thornton.
The evening includes a tribute to company founders Jim, Dick and Mary Cabela for their conservation efforts. Husband-and-wife Dick and Mary are expected to make a rare appearance at the event.
“Dick and Mary Cabela don’t generally go to things like this,” said Greg Masinton, marketing manager for the Wildlife Experience. “I believe the only reason they are is because of our personal ties with them.”
Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner and many of the company’s senior directors and board members also will attend.
Masinton said the museum’s founders, Dave and Gail Liniger, have historical ties with the Cabela’s, prompting the idea of a welcome dinner. Additionally, the Lone Tree store site at RidgeGate Parkway is just one interstate exit south of the Wildlife Experience’s Lincoln and Interstate 25 access.
“They’re going in our back yard,” Masinton said. “They’re joining our community. There are 450 community and business people that are really wanting to get to know them and celebrate the fact that not only are they coming to town, it’s a good fit for our community.”
The Wildlife Experience and Cabela’s also share a common tie with their interest in conservation.
“They have a great history of supporting conservation efforts,” Masinton said. “That’s a little bit about what we champion as well, the inspiration for the outdoors and wildlife.”
Tickets sold for $500 for a table of 10, a fee designed only to cover the Wildlife Experience’s costs, Masinton said.
Construction of the Lone Tree store is well under way, with an opening planned in July.
