Castle View High School art teacher Julie Holladay says she has wanted to organize a show for Castle Rock art students ever since Castle View High School opened five years ago. It’s finally come together with the Outlets at Castle Rock supplying some currently unused space for display of work by students of all ages. Works by more than 100 students are expected from all Castle View, Mountain Vista and Douglas County High School feeder schools.

“Rock the Arts, a Celebration of Arts Education in Castle Rock” will be held Feb. 15-21 at the Outlets at Castle Rock.

The Castle View National Art Honor Society members will host free art lessons for visiting kids over the Presidents Day weekend and high school theater groups will promote upcoming shows, such as Castle View’s “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

An awards ceremony is scheduled 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 21, when guest speakers will include Dr. Jim Calhoun from CVHS.

Following Rock the Arts, the Outlets will host the annual Douglas County Senior Portfolio Art Show, which draws top work from all the high schools. Usually 100 to 150 students participate and scholarships are awarded. An awards ceremony for that exhibit will be on the afternoon of Feb. 27.

“Rock the Arts, a Celebration of Arts Education in Castle Rock,” will be held Feb. 15 to 21 at the Outlets at Castle Rock, 5050 Factory Shop Road, Suites 600-610.
