Lone Tree Chief of Police Stephen Hasler presented South Metro Fire Rescue Authority with a tree at Station 34 in memory of Brian Kopp.

Kopp was killed in an avalanche last December in Grand County while snowmobiling with friends. Station 34 was Kopp’s station before his death.

“In the Lone Tree public safety community, Brian was part of our family,” Hasler said Sept. 30. “We wanted to honor his service and heroism with something that will live and grow at his fire station for many, many years.”

Today’s Nursery donated the Chanticleer Pear tree that will was planted at the dedication. The pear tree is a flowering tree that can grow to about 35 feet and turns a beautiful shade of red in the fall.

“A tree will give us a daily reminder to never forget our fallen brother,” Fire Chief Dan Qualman said. “We really appreciate the Lone Tree Police Department for providing this living memorial.”
