Airport noise group to gather input

Posted

The Centennial Airport/Community Noise Roundtable will have its second public hearing to identify and discuss aircraft-related noise issues at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Ramada Hotel and Suites adjacent to the Air Traffic Control Tower at 7770 S. Peoria St. in Englewood.

The roundtable was established, after approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, as an advisory committee to monitor programs including the Fly Quiet Program guidelines and Noise Monitoring Program, and to generate discussion and possible solutions for airport noise.

The roundtable heard initial comments from the public regarding noise impacts on their communities on Jan. 6. Approximately 20 people gave oral or written testimony commenting on helicopter noise, pilot training noise, and northwest and southwest take-offs.

The group set a goal of gathering as much public input as possible in the process. If members of the public are unable to attend the public hearing, public comment is accepted at each roundtable meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.

Incorporating input from the public, along with the FAR Part 150 Noise Study and members of the roundtable, the roundtable group will finalize a work program to address noise concerns. The program establishes important items to study and then seeks to reach agreements between the FAA, airport authority, airport users and the community to deal with airport noise.
