Sept. 23
Join quilter and author Cindy Brick at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the
Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock as she discusses her book,
“Quilts of the Golden West.” Books will be available for sale and
signing. Brick is a resident of Castle Rock and is an expert on
quilts, quilt history, and quilt restoring. She will address our
national history, which has been molded by the search for precious
minerals, and the lifestyles and quilts of the pioneers who
followed the gold West.
Sept. 24
Family Mystery Festival begins at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the
Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock. The evening is the
library’s main One Book One Castle Rock event, and will include an
appearance and book signing by Alane Ferguson, author of “The
Christopher Killer.” Registration is required for all the free
events. Residents are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite
mystery character for the costume contest. All ages are included
and prizes will be given.
Sept. 25
Blues guitarist Ted Loughry will bring his solo act to Parker
Library’s Live Local Music Series at 2 p.m. Sept. 25. Loughry is
playing with Denver’s The King Stan Band and is the “stunt
guitarist” for Starcher-Hutsen in Glenwood Springs. Call

Bonfils Blood Drive is at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at Philip S. Miller

Boost Your Sales with Connect Selling. Learn some techniques
that deepen your relationships to clients and help you beat your
competition at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Castle Pines Chamber of
Commerce, 562 Castle Pines Parkway, Suite C-1, Castle Pines. Hosted
by Castle Pines Library.

ESL Family Night at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at Philip S. Miller Library.
Resources for English learning families, presented in partnership
with Douglas County Schools.
Oct. 1-3
Harvest of Quilts Show, a third biennial event, is Oct. 1-3 at
the Philip S. Miller Library. Quilts will be on display from 9 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1-2 and from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 3. The show is
co-sponsored by the Castle Rock Quilt Club and will include
quilting demonstrations Saturday and Sunday.
Oct. 1-31
Fall Family Fun. Douglas County Libraries encourages exercise
for the mind and body. From Oct. 1-31, library users may visit
DouglasCountyLibraries.org
to print out an activity sheet, which offers suggestions such as
taking a hike or dancing to music from a borrowed library CD.
Children 12 and under may bring their activity sheets to any
Douglas County Libraries’ location during October to receive four
coupons from South Suburban Parks and Recreation. The coupons are
good for discounts on children’s admissions to mini-golf, ice

Oct. 2
The Douglas County Libraries Writers Conference is from 8 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at at Castle View High School, 5254 N. Meadows
Drive, Castle Rock. New and experienced writers can enjoy a day of
workshops and networking, and gain tips and insight from authors
and publishing professionals. Tickets are on sale for $75, with an
additional $25 for a private agent pitch session. Special pricing
of $35 is available to young writers, ages 14-18. Lunch is included
with all tickets.
Oct. 13
“A Day with Rick Bayless,” winner of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters,
visits Douglas County Libraries on Oct. 13. Bayless is an
award-winning chef-restaurateur. His public television series,
“Mexico: One Plate at a Time,” is in its seventh season, and his
sixth cookbook, “Fiesta at Rick's: Fabulous Food for Great Times
with Friends,” was released in July. Get tickets to a variety of
events that day at DouglasCountyLibraries.org.
Additional tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 for $125.
