Get a taste of Douglas County

Get your forks ready for a chance to sample a host of local cuisine at the Taste of Douglas County, the area’s largest and longest running food festival.

The Taste celebrates its eighth year at the Douglas County Events Center with more than 50 restaurants from Douglas County and along the Front Range attending.

Event organizer Mike Boyle, host of the Mike Boyle Restaurant Show, promises this year’s event will deliver a choice of tastes for every palate, at a value he says is unmatched in Colorado.

“In my over 19 years of doing restaurant shows and radio and TV, I’ve attended many food fests in the state, and in my opinion this is far and away the best food venue for the value,” Boyle said. “Residents all up and down the Front Range can sample restaurants they’ve heard all about — for not a tremendous amount of money.”

Boyle hosts the Taste of Colorado with the help of local restaurateur John De Lay, owner of Pegasus Restaurant. Pegasus is among the locations where advance discount tickets are available to purchase for $10.

Visitors will have the choice among a host of restaurants from throughout Douglas County, including John Holly’s Asian Bistro, Brio Tuscan Grill, Outback Steakhouse and LoDo’s Bar and Grill. Adults will have a choice of liquor samplings while kids and the young at heart can enjoy a selection of pizza, pastry, ice cream and dessert.

The Taste extends beyond the boundaries of Douglas County this year to welcome the Craftwood Inn of Manitou Springs, voted one of the top 10 restaurants by the largest reservation system in Colorado, Boyle said. The Craftwood Inn is among those restaurants noted for its Colorado cuisine such as wild game, duck and wild boar. Boyle compares the restaurant to the state’s more popular destination establishments.

“When you have the opportunity to get one of the top 10 restaurants in the state, I think we should get them,” Boyle said. “I think they will be doing something exciting.”

The Taste of Colorado begins at 5 p.m., Aug. 19 at the Douglas County Events Center. Advance tickets are available for $10 at select locations and online through noon the day of the event. Tickets purchased at the door are $20. The events center box office will open at 4 p.m. Latecomers can purchase discount $10 tickets the day of the event at Pegasus Restaurant in Castle Rock. Tickets for children 6-12 years old are $10 at the door, or $5 in advance. Children five years old and younger are free.
