All voices should be heard
I’m alarmed that there are people who insist that the voices and arguments of those with differing opinions should be not only silenced but eliminated from publication altogether, as has been expressed in recent weeks in letters to the editor.
The “LETTERS” section of this paper is titled “Local Voices” (plural) and the editors wisely allow all of their readership to express their opinion, I’m sure with the First Amendment in mind. Eliminating any reasonably expressed viewpoint equals censorship. Were the paper to take such action, they would lose half their market and a great deal of the ad revenue those readers bring to local businesses.
The job of the media is to report, not judge and certainly not censor any of its constituency. Bravo to this paper for publishing all voices and all viewpoints. We are blessed to live in a land where it is our right and our privilege to have our voices heard. All voices!
