In a commemorative move celebrating the city’s 25th anniversary, Lone Tree recently acquired a nearly 400-acre property for $25.

The land, formerly owned by the Rampage Range Metro District and RidgeGate Investments Inc., has 374 acres of open space and 18 acres of developed parks, according to a release from the city. 

The land was transferred to the city to allow for future protections and conservation of the space, according to the release.

“Residents already had access to this,” said city spokesperson Denisse Coffman. “It’s just a transfer … residents won’t notice a difference.”

Douglas County's East/West trail — which connects Lone Tree to Highlands Ranch — runs through the open space property. The Willow Creek Trail also crosses through the park properties and connects to the East/West Trail in the open space, Coffman said.

“What better way to celebrate the city’s 25th anniversary than with the unprecedented acquisition of this extensive open space and park land for our community to enjoy for generations to come,” said Mayor Jackie Millet, according to the release.

The transfer, which includes Lincoln Commons Park, Don Bounds Park, Promenade Park, Belvedere Park and RidgeGate/Cossington Open Space, was discussed and approved in the city council’s study session on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

“It makes total sense for them to be owned and controlled by the people and city that they serve,” said Keith Simon, President of Rampage Range Metro District, according to the release.
