Ponderosa makes a charge for wrestling title, Pomona wins

Ponderosa had a chance to win the Class 5A state wrestling championship held March 13 in Pueblo.The Mustangs had a 12-point lead going into the final session, but Pomona’s depth began to show, and the Panthers won their third straight state title and fifth in the past six years.

Pomona wound up with 180 points compared to 159 for Ponderosa, which earned the second-place trophy. Chaparral was fourth in the team standings.

The Panthers had 12 wrestlers who placed and had four individual state champions.

Pondo had seven individual wrestlers who wound up second and 10 who placed among the top six.

Otto Black, Jett Strickenberger, Jacob Bostelman, Murphy Menke, Aidan Lenz, Jaron Mahler and Traevin Osborn were the Mustangs wrestlers who lost title matches and were runners-up.
