RidgeGate project targets completion by end of year

Posted

Construction on the RidgeGate Parkway project started May 25.

Drivers will have an alternative route to Interstate 25 by the end of the year.

The RidgeGate project is an effort by Douglas County and the City of Lone Tree. The construction of the project is being done in two phases. The first phase is being constructed by Lone Tree and consists of the extension of RidgeGate Parkway east between Interstate 25 and Peoria Street and Peoria Street between Crescent Moon Parkway to RidgeGate Parkway East. Anticipation of completion on phase one is set for the beginning of October.

Construction on phase two is being done by Douglas County. This phase will complete the extension of RidgeGate Parkway East/Mainstreet between Peoria Street and Meridian Village. Phase two is set to be competed by December 2010. Sean Owens, project manager for Douglas County, said there are two bridges to be constructed with phase two, one for Happy Canyon Creek and one for Badger Gulch.

“Completion of these bridges are the critical path for opening the roadway in December, which is a very aggressive schedule for a contractor,” he said. “If the contractor cannot meet the early opening in December, then phase two will open to the traveling public in the early spring of 2011. Many factors could affect the aggressive early opening schedule, like weather or any unforeseen material shortages.”

Owens said the project will complete another transportation corridor between State Highway 83 and I-25 which will provide relief congestion on Lincoln Avenue.
