Legend girls volleyball coach Travis Underwood has a very good team this season, which is a little scary for the coach.

The Titans are 20-3 heading into this week's regional playoffs, which must be completed by No. 9, ranked third in the Oct. 28 CHSAANow.com 5A poll and have won eight straight matches since an Oct. 8 loss to top-ranked Chaparral.

"To me, as a coach in my 24th year, I have really have never had a team that I don't know where the top end is,” said Underwood after watching his team down Highlands Ranch in a match Nov. 2 at the Titan Classic. "This team gets pushed and they push back. You saw that against Highlands Ranch and Cherry Creek. I don't know where their top end will be. It's scary.”

Legend returned seven players that played in the Titans' final game of last season. They are Briar Moore, Sydney Fellers, Hannah Detter, Rylie Kadel, Sydney Drielling, Chandler Fleming and Morgan Jorgensen.

"It started with just meeting with the returners from last year and talking with them about what their expectations were and what my exceptations are,” Underwood said. "We got buy-in from the girls and the family, and it doesn't hurt that we got Peyton Dunn transfered down here as well. She adds another element to our team.”

Legend opened the season with a loss to Cherokee Trail but beat the Cougars in the third match of the season in the Regis Jam tournament.

"We saw Cherokee Trail again and we made adjustments against them and the next thing you know we have the mixture and ingredients,” Undewood said. "Now it is just a matter of keeping them motivated, keeping them disciplined and letting them go and see what they do.

"We beat Chaparral at Regis Jam, the first time ever Legend had beat Chap. They beat us at their place so they get to be league champs. They are a good team. We don't have to make adjustments, it is just a matter of not making those errors.”

Kadel, a 6-foot-1 junior middle hitter, leads the team with 282 kills. She is the Continental League leader with a .431 hitting percentage and is seond in kills.

Kadel and Dunn, the junior setter who transfered from Fossil Ridge, are the squad leaders in total blocks with 52 and 51, respectively. Dunn also has a team-leading 35 service aces. Moore has 262 digs and Dunn is the assist leader with 595.

Moore and junior Morgan Kelsey are the defensive leaders.

"What I base our program on is defense,” explained Underwood.

Dunn and Morgan Jorgensen are the team captains.

"Morgan Jorgensen is a middle and she is a returner as well,” Underwood said. ”And the thing about Morgan, she is kind of like the mother figure. She holds them accountable out there on the court, and that's why she is a captain.”
